Buffalo Airport to Toronto
From Buffalo Niagara arrivals to your door in the GTA
A Buffalo Airport to Toronto car service is the ride you book when the cheap fare into the United States has done its job and now you have to get home. You are standing in baggage claim at Buffalo Niagara International with your bags, in another country, roughly two and a quarter hours of driving and one border away from your own bed.
Read the full introduction
Everything below is written for the inbound direction, landing at BUF and being driven north into Canada, where you deal with the Canada Border Services Agency rather than US officers. If you are going the other way, from Toronto down to catch a flight at Buffalo, our Toronto to Buffalo Airport page covers that direction instead.

Downtown Toronto in about 2 hours 15 of driving, Pearson a little less.

01 · MEETING YOUR CAR AT BUF
Where does your chauffeur wait at Buffalo Niagara International?
Buffalo Niagara International Airport sits at 4200 Genesee Street, and it is a manageable terminal. You come off the aircraft, walk down to baggage claim, and everything on the ground side happens close to the carousels.
Here is the honest part, and you will not find it on the competing pages. The airport publishes a list of around nineteen licensed limousine operators, but that page states no meeting point, no door and no curbside rule. There is no post number to memorise, because the airport has not published one. What it does publish is the route for app pickups, a useful landmark for everyone: leave through the terminal doors closest to carousel 1 in baggage claim, then follow the signs to the designated pickup spots in the hotel shuttle bus lane.

So we do not send you to a door we read on a website. Your chauffeur is at the airport before your aircraft is on the ground, and once you land you get a text with the door and lane for that day, plus the vehicle and the plate. Ask for meet and greet if you would rather be found inside with a name sign.
One more thing worth checking with any company you call, including us. The airport publishes a separate Canadian Ground Transportation directory, twenty three operators running Canadian routes. A cross border job is not a local one, so ask plainly whether the company and the chauffeur are set up to cross.
Good to know: Airports move their ground transportation lanes, and Buffalo publishes no limousine meeting point at all. Treat any door number you read online, ours included, as a starting point. The message from your chauffeur after you land is the current one.

02 · THE DRIVE NORTH
How long is the drive from Buffalo Airport to Toronto?
Roughly 173 km from the terminal to downtown Toronto, and about two hours and a quarter of free flow driving. To Toronto Pearson it is a little shorter, about 164 km and just over two hours. Travellers who have done the run describe it on the forums as two to two and a quarter hours plus clearing customs, which matches.
Read those numbers for what they are. Driving time, no traffic, no border. The queue at the CBSA booth is a separate thing, and nobody, us included, can tell you in advance how long it will be.
The usual line north is I-190 out of the airport, over the Peace Bridge into Fort Erie, then the QEW around the western end of Lake Ontario through St Catharines, Burlington, Oakville and Mississauga into Toronto. Highway 407 is used only if you ask for it or a blockage forces it, and the toll appears on your invoice at cost.
The bridge is chosen on the day, not in the quote. CBSA publishes live wait times for its busiest land crossings, and the ones that matter here are the Peace Bridge at Fort Erie, the Queenston Lewiston Bridge and the Rainbow Bridge at Niagara Falls, which takes travellers only. Your chauffeur checks those numbers before leaving the airport and again on I-190, then takes whichever crossing is moving.

03 · CROSSING INTO CANADA
What happens at the bridge on the way into Canada?
Start with the part that matters most. Entry into Canada is decided by a CBSA officer at the booth, not by a car company and not by this page. Requirements change, they depend on your citizenship and your situation, and nothing here is immigration advice. Check the official CBSA pages before you travel. We cannot promise a crossing time and we cannot promise you will be admitted.
The process itself is short and undramatic. The car joins the inspection lane, the windows come down, and every person hands over their own travel document. Do not pass a pile of passports forward from the back seat, and do not pack them in a case in the trunk. The officer asks where you are going, how long you were away and what you are bringing back, and you normally stay in the car.
What to have ready before the car reaches the booth
- Every passenger's own travel document in hand, out of the bags, before you join the queue.
- The address in Canada you are going to, and how long you have been out of the country.
- Receipts for what you bought in the United States, and a clear idea of what you are declaring.
- Full legal names given at booking exactly as they appear on the documents people carry.
- A heads up if anyone is not a Canadian or US citizen, so we build sensible time into the pickup.
- Child seats confirmed by age and weight, and proof of citizenship for each child travelling.

Any vehicle can be sent to secondary inspection. It is often routine, it does not mean anyone has done anything wrong, and it can take real time. Your chauffeur waits. The waiting allowance on a cross border booking is written on your confirmation.
Declaring is yours, not your chauffeur's. If you shopped in the United States, you declare it. CBSA publishes personal exemption limits, CAN$200 after twenty four hours away and CAN$800 after forty eight hours. The goods have to be with you when you arrive, exemptions cannot be pooled between travellers, and a trip of under twenty four hours carries none at all.
Good to know: Entry rules, accepted documents and wait times all change. Read the official CBSA pages before you cross into Canada, and treat them as correct wherever they differ from this page.
04 · LATE FLIGHTS AND LONG NIGHTS
What if your flight into Buffalo lands late?
We put your flight number on the booking and follow it. Land ninety minutes late and the pickup moves with you. Land early and the car is already there. Neither costs anything extra.
Buffalo is a domestic arrival for most people flying in, so there is no customs hall on the US side. You walk off, collect your bags and you are outside. Here the unknown sits on the bridge instead of in the terminal.
A late landing changes the border more than it changes the drive. A car that would have crossed at six in the evening now crosses at eleven at night, and that is a different queue. Sometimes it works in your favour. We still will not quote a number, because the wait is set by CBSA staffing and whatever traffic is ahead of you.
If your flight is cancelled or diverted, call or text the number on the confirmation as soon as you know. Telling us early genuinely helps, because a re-booked flight into Buffalo the next morning is easy to cover. Overnight arrivals are booked exactly like daytime ones, and there is no last coach to miss at two in the morning, which is the main reason this route gets booked privately at all.

05 · YOUR DROP-OFF
Where in the GTA can this car take you?
Anywhere you need, because it is your car and not a route with fixed stops. The QEW does most of the work, so some drop-offs are a longer night than others. Downtown Toronto is about 173 km from the terminal, roughly two hours and a quarter of driving before the border. Toronto Pearson is about 164 km and just over two hours. Pearson sits in Mississauga, so a Mississauga address is broadly the same run as the airport.
Niagara is the short one. Niagara Falls, Niagara-on-the-Lake and St Catharines sit within a short drive of the bridges, so you are off the QEW early. Grimsby, Hamilton, Burlington and Oakville follow on the same corridor. North and east of the city is the other extreme, since Markham, Vaughan, Richmond Hill and Pickering mean crossing Toronto after two hours of driving.
If you are connecting onward from Pearson, tell us the departing flight number and whether it leaves from Terminal 1 or Terminal 3. We treat that as a connection rather than a drop, so the pickup at Buffalo is planned backwards from your check in cut off, with the border in the middle as the unknown.

06 · LUGGAGE AND VEHICLES
Which vehicle should you book for the ride into Canada?
Count the bags before you count the people. A sedan carries up to three passengers once their luggage is in. Six adults home from a week away need an SUV at least, and ten or more, or a family travelling with a stroller and a winter's worth of gear, means a Sprinter. Give us the bag count at booking and the car is sized to it.
There is a border reason on top of the comfort reason. A vehicle packed to the roof is slower at the booth if an officer asks to see what is in the back, and unloading a trunk on the shoulder at Fort Erie at midnight is a bad end to a trip.
Child seats for infants, toddlers and boosters are fitted before your flight lands, provided you give us each child's age and weight at booking. Every child crossing needs their own proof of citizenship, car seat or not.
If you land between December and April, the winter side matters. Toronto licensed limousines must run winter tires from 1 December to 30 April, and the QEW along the lake is the stretch where that shows up. Snow that is nothing in Buffalo can be a squall by St Catharines, so a winter arrival is planned with more time, not with a promise.
07 · WHAT IT COSTS
What does a Buffalo Airport to Toronto car service cost?
The price is a single flat rate for the car, fixed before you travel. It moves with the vehicle class, the drop-off address and the number of people and bags, which is why no web page can print a real number for your trip. Ask us and you get one.
One thing to clear up. The published airport tariff you may have seen for this corridor is Toronto Pearson's, and it governs licensed cars leaving the Pearson curb. It does not apply to a car collecting you in New York State. Coming this way there is no regulated curbside tariff to point at, so compare operators instead. For a rough sense of the market, one Ontario operator publishes $260 CAD for the Toronto to Buffalo airport run. That is their number for one direction, not ours, and prices change.
Things that change the price
- The vehicle class, since a Sprinter for ten is a different car from a sedan for two.
- Where you are going. Niagara Falls, Mississauga and Markham are three different runs off the same bridge.
- The hour. Overnight and pre-dawn work is priced higher right across the industry, and we say so upfront.
- Bridge tolls, passed through at cost and itemised.
- Time at the border past the allowance written on your confirmation.
- Highway 407, only on request or when traffic forces it, with the toll shown separately.
When you compare quotes, compare the same things. Ask three questions. Is HST included. Are bridge tolls included or charged at cost. Is gratuity included. A cheaper looking number that adds tax, toll and tip at the end is not cheaper. We give you the all in figure before you book.
08 · OTHER WAYS IN
Is there a cheaper way from Buffalo Airport to Toronto?
Yes. Before you commit a few hundred dollars, hear the alternatives, because a private car is not the right answer for every arrival.
The coach is the cheapest real option. FlixBus runs this corridor several times a day from around twenty dollars, with the quickest services near two and three quarter hours, stopping at Buffalo Niagara International itself and at Toronto Pearson Terminal 1. Airport to airport for a fraction of a car. The catch is a fixed timetable and no help if your flight lands two hours late. Megabus also runs Buffalo to Toronto, but downtown to downtown.
There are shared shuttles too. Buffalo Super Shuttle runs scheduled service between Buffalo, Niagara and Toronto, and Niagara Airbus, listed by Toronto Pearson on its own long distance travel page, serves the Niagara region and Buffalo. Both cost less than a private car and both mean someone else's schedule and other passengers' stops.
Two ideas people arrive with are less clever than they sound. Rideshare drivers as a rule do not cross the border, and getting dropped at the last minute is a familiar story on this corridor. One way car rentals are the other, and travel forums are full of threads asking whether they work because they usually do not.
If you left your own car at Buffalo on the way out, drive it home. The airport's published parking is $14 a day in the long term lot, $12 a day in the economy lot and up to $30 a day in the daily garage, plus 8.75% New York State sales tax, on rates effective 15 September 2026. A private car earns its money on a late arrival, a group with real luggage, children in seats, or a Pearson connection you cannot lose. On a solo midday landing with one backpack, take the coach.

Buffalo Airport to Toronto FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Still have a question? Call us any time at (647) 525-5466.
How long does it take to get from Buffalo Airport to Toronto?
About two hours and a quarter of driving for roughly 173 km to downtown Toronto, or just over two hours and about 164 km to Toronto Pearson. Travellers on the forums describe it as two to two and a quarter hours plus clearing customs. None of those figures include the CBSA queue, which nobody can promise, so we plan around your arrival rather than quote a door to door time.
Where does the driver meet me at Buffalo Niagara International?
Ground side, near baggage claim. The airport publishes the route for app pickups, out through the doors closest to carousel 1 and toward the hotel shuttle bus lane, but it publishes no limousine meeting point or door at all. That is why your chauffeur texts you the exact door and lane once you land, with the vehicle and plate.
What do I need to cross into Canada from Buffalo?
Every passenger needs their own travel document in hand at the booth, and what counts depends on your citizenship and your situation. Requirements change, so check the official CBSA pages before you travel. We give no immigration advice, and no car company can promise you will be admitted. That decision belongs to the officer.
Which bridge do you use coming from Buffalo into Canada?
It is decided on the day. The Peace Bridge at Fort Erie is the natural one from the airport, since I-190 runs to it and the QEW runs from it. When it backs up, the Queenston Lewiston Bridge is the usual alternative. CBSA publishes live wait times for those crossings and for the Rainbow Bridge, and your chauffeur checks them before leaving the terminal.
Can Uber take me from Buffalo Airport to Toronto?
Not realistically. Drivers as a rule do not take border crossings, and last minute cancellations are a familiar story on this corridor. Use an operator set up to cross, and confirm that on the phone. Buffalo's airport publishes a directory of operators running Canadian routes if you want to cross check.
How much is a car from Buffalo Airport to Toronto?
We quote a flat rate for the whole car before you travel, based on the vehicle, your drop-off and your luggage. There is no regulated curbside tariff in this direction, since the published Pearson tariff only covers cars leaving the Pearson curb. As a rough benchmark, one Ontario operator publishes $260 CAD for the Toronto to Buffalo airport run. That is their number, not ours, and it changes.
Can you take me from Buffalo Airport straight to Pearson for a connecting flight?
Yes, and it is the trip to book carefully. Tell us the departing flight number, the terminal and the check in cut off. We plan the Buffalo pickup backwards from that, with the border in the middle as the part nobody controls. Allow more buffer than feels necessary on a Friday afternoon or a long weekend.
Do I have to declare what I bought in the United States?
Yes, and it is yours to declare, not your chauffeur's. CBSA sets personal exemptions at CAN$200 once you have been away twenty four hours and CAN$800 after forty eight. The goods have to be with you when you arrive, travellers cannot pool their exemptions, and a shorter trip carries none. Read the official CBSA declaration page before you travel.
