Pearson to Casino Rama

Pearson to Casino Rama and Orillia, door to door

There is no shuttle from Toronto Pearson to Casino Rama. Not a paid one, not a free one. The casino coach everybody has heard about is real, but it boards in Vaughan, which is no help at a baggage carousel with a suitcase. That gap is why most people booking a car from Pearson airport to Casino Rama end up on a page like this one.

Read the full introduction

This page covers the trip in one direction, out of the airport and north. It covers the resort at Rama and it covers Orillia itself, because the two are ten minutes apart and travellers mix them up constantly. For stops along the same corridor, see our Barrie page and our Oro-Medonte page.

01 · THE DRIVE

How long is the drive from Pearson to Casino Rama?

About 1 hour 35 minutes over roughly 132 km when the road is clear. Downtown Orillia is a little closer, about 123 km and roughly 1 hour 27 minutes. Those are free flowing numbers measured from the airport.

The route is straightforward. Your chauffeur picks up Highway 400 and runs north through Vaughan, Bradford and Barrie. North of Barrie the 400 hands over to Highway 11, which carries you past Lake Simcoe to Orillia, then Highway 12 and north on Rama Road to the resort door. You may see a shorter figure quoted, around 123 km and 80 minutes. That is the casino's own directions sheet, measured from Toronto rather than from Pearson.

Two things stretch the drive. The first is Friday. Highway 400 north is the main cottage corridor out of the Greater Toronto Area, and Friday afternoon northbound through Barrie is slow enough to make the news every summer. On a summer Friday or before a long weekend, allow another 45 to 60 minutes. The second is winter, when the open stretches north of Barrie catch blowing snow and whiteouts and the highway does close outright in a bad storm. Your chauffeur checks the corridor before leaving for the airport, which is the value of a driver who runs this road every week.

02 · CHOOSING YOUR DROP-OFF

Casino Rama or Orillia, which drop-off do you actually want?

People treat these as one place. They are about ten minutes apart and suit different trips, so be sure before you book.

Casino Rama Resort is at 5899 Rama Road in Rama, east of Orillia. It has its own hotel and the Entertainment Centre, a 5,000 seat theatre running concerts, comedy, plays, tradeshows and conferences. If your confirmation names the resort hotel, or you hold a ticket for a show, that is your drop-off and your chauffeur takes you to the hotel entrance.

Orillia is the city on the channel between Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching, with roughly 31,000 residents, a Georgian College campus, a hospital and a waterfront full of marinas. Plenty of these rides have nothing to do with the resort. They are people going home, students arriving for term, or holidaymakers heading to a rental out toward Washago and Severn.

If you are here for a show but staying in town, that works fine. A taxi between the casino and Orillia runs roughly $20 to $24 and takes about ten minutes, and some Orillia hotels run a free shuttle for their own guests. We can also run it as a two stop trip, hotel first and the resort once you have dropped your bags. If you are unsure which you need, look at the address on your booking rather than the name.

03 · WHAT IT COSTS

What does a car from Pearson to Casino Rama cost?

We quote a flat rate for the whole car, agreed before you travel, with no meter running. The rate depends on the vehicle, the drop-off and how many people and bags you have, so the honest answer on a web page is to ask for a quote.

What we can give you is a public benchmark. The airport authority publishes a tariff for licensed taxis and limos leaving the Pearson curb, and it covers this corridor by name. Orillia is listed at $247 by taxi and $273 by limo, taxes included, with Barrie at $177 and $194. Casino Rama is not listed on its own, so Orillia is the closest listed destination and Rama is about ten minutes further. Those are regulated curb rates rather than our rates, but they show what a sensible number looks like. The airport also runs its own fare estimate tool.

Things that change the price

  • Vehicle. A sedan takes up to 3 people with luggage, an SUV suits 4 to 6, a Sprinter carries 10 or more.
  • Drop-off. Rama is further than downtown Orillia, and a cottage address past Washago further again.
  • Time of day. Overnight and very early pickups cost more across the industry, and we say so upfront.
  • Stops. A second stop is charged by time and shows on the quote, never buried in the fare.
  • Waiting. A pre-booked post-show departure holds a car and chauffeur, priced differently from a straight transfer.

That tariff also sets out rules worth knowing, because they turn up as surprises on other people's invoices. A $15 surcharge applies once per trip when a driver is asked to carry more than four passengers or excess baggage, a requested stop is $10 for each ten minutes, and drivers are not permitted to charge extra for paying by credit card.

When you compare quotes, compare the same thing. Published sedan base rates on this route run from about $200 to $255, and most exclude HST, a fuel surcharge and gratuity. Ask three questions: is HST included, is the airport pre-arranged fee included, is gratuity included. We give you the all-in figure before you confirm. And if you are weighing this against driving yourself, valet at the resort is $28 including tax.

04 · LATE ARRIVALS AND SHOW NIGHTS

Landing late, or leaving after a show at the Entertainment Centre

This is why a lot of these bookings exist. The Entertainment Centre seats 5,000 and its shows finish late, often well after ten at night. The scheduled coach from the Greater Toronto Area made its last run hours earlier, and it never came from the airport anyway. Nothing public is going to move you at that hour.

So we book the return the same way we book the arrival. You tell us roughly when the show ends, we set a departure time, and we agree the meeting point in advance so nobody is wandering a resort car park at midnight looking for a black sedan. If the encore runs long, the car waits.

On the arrival side, your flight number goes on the booking and we track it. Land 40 minutes late and your pickup moves 40 minutes later at no extra charge. Land early and the car is there early. International arrivals include 60 minutes of free waiting after touchdown, which covers the walk, the border queue and the baggage belt. If customs holds you longer, call the number on your confirmation and we hold the car.

A midnight landing is booked exactly like a midday one. No depot to phone, no timetable to miss, and no working out at one in the morning how you will cover 130 km. If you still need to collect tickets on a show day, the box office opens at noon and stays open until showtime.

05 · LUGGAGE, KIDS AND GROUPS

Which vehicle should you book?

Book by luggage, not by headcount. That is the mistake that causes trouble at the curb, and it is an expensive one to fix at Door A.

Two travellers with two large cases and carry-ons are comfortable in a sedan. Four people with four large cases are not, and that is an SUV. Add golf clubs, fishing gear for a week on Lake Couchiching, or a family's luggage for a fortnight at a rental, and you want the larger vehicle. Tell us the number of bags when you book, not just the number of seats.

Groups are the real hole in this route. Charter coach operators want 45 people or more before they will run anything, and limo companies quote sedans for one to four. Nobody speaks to the middle, which is where most Casino Rama groups sit: eight out for a birthday, a dozen colleagues on a corporate night, a wedding party going to a show. We cover that range with SUVs and Sprinters, and we can run two vehicles off the same flight so a group of fourteen arrives together.

Travelling with children? Ontario requires young children to travel in a proper seat or booster, so ask at booking and give us each child's age, weight and height. The seat is then fitted before your flight lands rather than improvised at the curb.

06 · OTHER WAYS TO GET THERE

Is there a shuttle from Pearson to Casino Rama?

No. There is no published shuttle of any kind between Toronto Pearson and Casino Rama, at any hour, in either direction. Worth saying plainly, because every other page on this subject either sells you a car or promotes a coach, and nobody joins the two facts together for someone who has just landed.

The coach is real, and if you live in the Greater Toronto Area it is useful. Casino Rama runs a VIP Coach operated by TOK Coachlines, express service seven days a week with extra pickups on Saturday and Sunday. It is free for My Club Rewards Silver, Gold, Black and Purple cardholders, and $20 for a White card, or $8 paid with Resort Rewards. But boarding is at the carpool lot at Highway 7 and Colossus Drive in Vaughan, moved there from the old Highway 400 and Major Mackenzie stop.

Read that boarding point again, because it is the whole problem. Vaughan is roughly 30 km from the airport, with no transit connection between the two that makes sense with luggage in your hands. The coach was built for people who drive to the lot and leave a car there. A reservation gives boarding priority but does not guarantee a seat, and the casino's own FAQ notes that bus services are run by outside operators rather than by the casino. Do not confuse it with the Great Canadian Rewards casino shuttle either, which serves Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto and Pickering Casino Resort, not Casino Rama.

For Orillia there are more options. The airport's own long distance travel page names Simcoe County Airport Service as serving Orillia. FlixBus runs from Pearson to the Orillia Downtown Terminal roughly four times a week at about 1 hour 35 minutes, fine if your flight lines up and useless if it does not. Ontario Northland serves Orillia as well, dropping at 27 West Street North near the Farmers' Market, but there is no direct run from Pearson and the routing through Vaughan takes around 2 hours 36 minutes.

So here is the honest version. A solo traveller on a tight budget, landing midday with one bag, can make a coach connection work for a fraction of what a car costs. A private car earns its money on a late landing, a group with luggage, a 5 am departure, children in car seats, or a show that ends at eleven.

07 · WHEN YOU ARE TRAVELLING

Does the season change this trip?

More than people expect, because Highway 400 is not really a commuter road north of the city. It is the route to cottage country and it behaves accordingly.

Summer is the busiest stretch. Friday afternoon northbound through Barrie backs up badly, and the Friday before a long weekend is worse. If your flight lands then, we plan the pickup with another 45 to 60 minutes built in rather than quote a time we cannot hold. Summer is also when the Orillia side gets busy, with rentals on Lake Couchiching and the marinas downtown.

Winter is a different problem. The open country north of Barrie catches blowing snow off the lakes, and whiteouts there have closed the highway for hours at a time. None of that is predictable a week ahead, so we set the pickup around the conditions on the day, and for a winter morning departure we usually suggest leaving earlier than the drive time alone suggests.

Show nights run right through the year and do not care what the weather is doing, so book the return leg with the arrival. Spring and autumn are the easy seasons here. The traffic thins, the road is clear, and 1 hour 35 minutes actually means 1 hour 35 minutes.

Pearson to Casino Rama FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Still have a question? Call us any time at (647) 525-5466.

How far is Casino Rama from Toronto Pearson Airport?

About 132 km by road, roughly 1 hour 35 minutes when traffic is free flowing. You will sometimes see about 123 km and 80 minutes quoted, which comes from the casino's own directions sheet and is measured from Toronto rather than the airport.

Is there a shuttle from Toronto Pearson to Casino Rama?

No. The Casino Rama VIP Coach, operated by TOK Coachlines, does run express service from the Greater Toronto Area seven days a week, but it boards at the carpool lot at Highway 7 and Colossus Drive in Vaughan, roughly 30 km from the airport with no sensible transit link for someone carrying luggage. It is free for My Club Rewards Silver, Gold, Black and Purple cardholders and $20 for a White card.

How long does it take to get from Pearson to Orillia?

Roughly 1 hour 27 minutes over about 123 km in clear conditions, running Highway 400 north and then Highway 11. Add 45 to 60 minutes for a summer Friday afternoon or a long weekend, when Highway 400 northbound through Barrie is at its slowest, and allow extra in winter when blowing snow north of Barrie can slow or close the road.

Can you pick us up after a show at the Entertainment Centre?

Yes, and it is worth booking at the same time as your arrival. The Entertainment Centre seats 5,000 and shows regularly finish after ten at night, by which point no scheduled service is running near Rama. We agree a departure time and a meeting point in advance, and if the show runs long the car waits.

What should a car from Pearson to Orillia or Casino Rama cost?

We quote a flat rate for the whole car before you travel, based on the vehicle, the drop-off and your luggage. As a public benchmark, the airport authority's published tariff lists Orillia at $247 by taxi and $273 by limo with taxes included, and Casino Rama is about ten minutes further. When comparing quotes elsewhere, check whether HST, the airport pre-arranged fee, a fuel surcharge and gratuity are already in the number.

Can you take a group of eight or ten to Casino Rama?

Yes. Charter coach operators generally want 45 people or more and limo companies usually quote sedans for one to four, which leaves groups in the middle with nowhere to go. We handle that range with SUVs and Sprinters, and we can run two vehicles off the same flight. Give us the bag count as well as the headcount.

Do you track my flight if it is delayed?

Yes. Your flight number goes on the booking and we follow it, so a delay moves your pickup automatically at no charge and an early landing means the car is there early. International arrivals include 60 minutes of free waiting time, and if customs holds you longer you call or text the number on your confirmation and we hold the car.
