Pearson to Niagara Falls

Pearson to Niagara, from the arrivals curb to your hotel door

Most people book this ride for one reason. They have been flying for hours, they are landing in a city they do not know, and they do not want to work out buses and shuttle schedules with their luggage in their hands. So a Pearson Airport to Niagara Falls car service is really a service that starts the moment the wheels touch down.

Read the full introduction

This page is about that trip in one direction, from the airport out to Niagara. If you are coming back the other way, our Niagara Falls to Pearson page covers pickups at hotels, inns and wineries in the region.

01 · THE DRIVE

How long does it take to drive from Pearson to Niagara Falls?

In normal conditions, 80 to 90 minutes. That is the honest number, and it holds for most of the day.

The route is simple. Out of the airport onto Highway 427 south, then the QEW around the western end of Lake Ontario, through Burlington and St. Catharines, and down to the Niagara exits. There is no turn-off you need to worry about and no toll, unless you ask your chauffeur to take the 407 to get around a bad blockage on the 401 or the QEW.

Two things stretch that number. The first is rush hour. Leaving Pearson between about 3 pm and 6 pm on a weekday puts you in the worst of the 427 and QEW traffic, so add 30 to 45 minutes. The second is a summer weekend afternoon, when Niagara is at its busiest and everyone is driving the same road.

There is also one bridge worth knowing about. The QEW crosses the Welland Canal on the Garden City Skyway in St. Catharines, a 2.2 km high level bridge that carries around 106,000 vehicles a day and is being twinned with a second bridge. When it closes for weather or a collision, traffic drops down to the Homer Lift Bridge and the whole corridor slows. Your chauffeur watches this before pickup, which is the real value of a driver who runs this route every week.

02 · CHOOSING YOUR DROP-OFF

Niagara Falls or Niagara-on-the-Lake, which one do you actually want?

People use the two names as if they are the same place. They are 20 to 25 minutes apart and they suit completely different trips, so it is worth being sure before you book.

Niagara Falls is where the Falls, the Fallsview hotels, Clifton Hill and the casinos are. If your booking says Fallsview, Marriott, Embassy Suites or Hilton, you want the Falls. It is the shorter drive, about 121 to 130 km from the airport.

Niagara-on-the-Lake is the old town at the mouth of the river, about 125 km from Pearson but past the Falls exits along the Niagara Parkway. This is where the Shaw Festival theatres, the small inns and most of the wineries are. If your itinerary mentions the Shaw, a winery estate or Queen Street, you want Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Not sure which suits you? If your plan is the Falls, the boat and the lights, book the Falls. If your plan is theatre, dinner and wine country, book Niagara-on-the-Lake. And if you are doing both, most people stay in one and drive over for a day, which is an easy 25 minutes.

03 · WHAT IT COSTS

What does a car from Pearson to Niagara cost, and how do you compare quotes?

We quote a flat rate for the whole car, not a meter, and the price is agreed before you travel. The rate depends on the vehicle, the destination and how many people and bags you have, so the honest answer on a web page is to get a quote for your trip.

What we can give you is a public benchmark to compare against. The airport authority publishes its own tariff for licensed taxis and limos leaving the Pearson curb. In that published tariff, Niagara Falls is $239 by taxi and $263 by limo, Niagara-on-the-Lake is $252 and $277, and St. Catharines is $208 and $229, taxes included. Those are the regulated curb rates, not our rates, but they tell you what a fair number looks like.

Things that change the price

  • Vehicle. A sedan seats up to 3 with luggage, an SUV suits 4 to 6, a Sprinter takes a group of 10 or more.
  • Destination. Niagara-on-the-Lake is a longer run than the Falls.
  • Time of day. Overnight and very early pickups cost more in most of the industry, and we say so upfront.
  • Stops. A stop on the way is charged by time, not hidden in the fare.
  • Highway 407. Only if you ask for it or traffic forces it, and the toll shows on your invoice.

When you compare quotes, compare the same things. Ask any company three questions: is HST included, is the airport pre-arranged fee included, and is gratuity included. A $225 quote with tax, fee and tip added is not cheaper than a $265 quote with everything in it. We tell you the all-in number before you book.

04 · DELAYS AND LATE LANDINGS

What happens if your flight is delayed, or lands early?

Your flight number goes on the booking, and we track it. If you land 40 minutes late, your pickup moves 40 minutes later and nobody charges you for it. If you land early, we are there early.

After you land you get 60 minutes of free waiting time on international arrivals, which covers the walk, the border queue and the baggage belt on a normal day. If customs holds you longer than that, call or text the number on your confirmation and we hold the car. Nobody leaves because a bag was slow.

For an overnight arrival, the car is booked the same way. There is no depot to call and no last shuttle to miss at one in the morning, which is the main reason people book a private car for this route rather than a scheduled service.

05 · LUGGAGE, KIDS AND GROUPS

Which vehicle should you book for the Niagara run?

Book by luggage, not by headcount. That is the mistake that causes trouble at the curb.

Two people with two large suitcases and carry-ons are comfortable in a sedan. Four people with four large cases are not, that is an SUV. A family of five with a stroller and ski bags in winter is a Sprinter, and so is a wine tour group of eight.

Child seats are available for infants, toddlers and boosters, and they are free. Ask for them when you book and say the child's age and weight so the right seat is fitted before your flight lands. Under Ontario law a child under 8 who weighs under 36 kg needs a proper seat or booster, so this is not an optional extra.

06 · OTHER WAYS TO GET THERE

Is there a cheaper way from Pearson to Niagara Falls?

Yes, and you should know about them. If your budget matters more than your time, a private car is not always the right call.

The airport lists Niagara Airbus on its own long distance page. They run a shared shuttle serving Niagara Falls, St. Catharines, Grimsby, Beamsville, Fort Erie and Niagara-on-the-Lake, and they meet passengers at the ground transportation desk on the lower level at Terminal 1 and at Door C at Terminal 3. It costs less than a private car, and in return you wait for other passengers and stop where they are going.

There is also GO Transit, which runs a weekend train to Niagara Falls, and intercity coaches. Both work, both are cheap, and neither one starts at the airport door, so you are handling a transfer with your luggage.

Where a private car wins is a late landing, a group with bags, an early flight out, kids in car seats, or an arrival where you simply do not want to think. Where it does not win is a solo traveller on a tight budget arriving midday. We would rather tell you that than sell you the wrong ride.

07 · WHEN YOU ARE TRAVELLING

Does the season change this trip?

More than people expect. Niagara is a summer destination, and July is the busiest month of all. From June to August, weekend afternoons on the QEW and around the Falls are slow, so we build extra time into the pickup rather than promise you a number we cannot hold.

If you are coming for the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake, the 2026 season runs from 2 April to 23 December, with the holiday shows starting in November. Curtain times drive the traffic in the Old Town, and an evening drop-off there is different from an afternoon one.

January brings the Icewine Festival, which is the quiet season for traffic and the busy season for wineries. Winter also changes the drive itself. Snow squalls off the lake can slow the QEW badly, and your pickup time is set around the conditions that day, not a fixed rule.

Pearson to Niagara Falls FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Still have a question? Call us any time at (647) 525-5466.

How far is Niagara Falls from Toronto Pearson Airport?

About 121 to 130 km by road, depending on which part of the city you are heading to and whether the route uses the 407. Published figures differ for exactly that reason, so treat anything more precise with suspicion. Niagara-on-the-Lake is a similar distance but a longer drive, since it sits past the Falls exits along the Niagara Parkway.

How long is the drive from Pearson to Niagara Falls?

80 to 90 minutes in normal traffic, on the 427 and the QEW. Add 30 to 45 minutes for a weekday afternoon rush or a busy summer weekend, and allow more if the Garden City Skyway in St. Catharines is closed and traffic is diverted to the Homer Lift Bridge.

Is there a shuttle from Toronto Pearson to Niagara Falls?

Yes. Niagara Airbus runs a shared shuttle from Pearson into the Niagara region, and it is listed on the airport's own long distance travel page. It costs less than a private car and it follows a shared schedule with other passengers' stops. A private car makes more sense for late arrivals, groups with luggage and anyone travelling with children.

What is the difference between Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake for a drop-off?

They are two different towns about 20 to 25 minutes apart. Niagara Falls has the Falls, the Fallsview hotels and the casinos. Niagara-on-the-Lake has the Shaw Festival, the Old Town inns and most of the wineries. Check which town your hotel is in before you book, because the drive and the rate differ.

Do you track my flight if it is delayed?

Yes. Your flight number is on the booking and we follow it. A delayed flight moves your pickup automatically at no charge, and an early landing means the car is there early. International arrivals include 60 minutes of free waiting time after you land.

Can you fit a group with ski bags or wine cases?

Yes, in the right vehicle. Tell us the number of bags when you book, not just the number of people. Sedans suit two travellers with normal luggage, SUVs suit four to six, and a Sprinter carries a larger group with bulky bags such as ski gear or cases of wine bought in the region.

Which airport is actually closest to Niagara Falls?

Buffalo Niagara International in New York State, about 48 km away, which is why some visitors fly there instead. If you have already booked into Pearson that does not help you, and driving from Pearson is straightforward, but it is worth knowing when you are planning a return trip.
