Pearson to Buffalo Airport
Toronto to Buffalo Niagara, with the border planned in
A Toronto to Buffalo Airport car service is not a normal airport run. The driving is straightforward, roughly two hours down the QEW and over a bridge. The part that decides your day is the border, and that is the part most websites skip. This page covers both, including the times when a coach is the better answer.
Read the full introduction
Everything here is about going one way, out of Toronto Pearson and into Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF) in New York State. If you are travelling on the Canadian side of the river instead, our Niagara Falls to Pearson page covers that region.

The route
Pearson and downtown Toronto to Buffalo Airport (BUF), mapped
Route lines follow the main highways and are a guide only. Your chauffeur picks the fastest road on the day.
The trip, start to finish
Any GTA address, or Door A if you are connecting from a flight into YYZ.
Around the lake through Burlington and St. Catharines.
Peace Bridge, Lewiston–Queenston or Rainbow, picked from live wait times. You clear US customs at the booth.
About two hours of driving, before the border queue.
Meeting your car at Pearson
Landing at Pearson? Here is where your chauffeur meets you
Pre-booked cars are dispatched from the Door A desk on the Arrivals level of both terminals. Tell the dispatcher you have a pre-arranged pickup.
Full Terminal 1 & 3 pickup guide →Early or late, the pickup moves with your real landing time, at no charge.
Ask when you book and your chauffeur waits in the arrivals hall with a name sign.
Your driver messages the exact pickup spot, because Pearson moves its zones from time to time.

01 · THE DRIVE
How long does the drive from Toronto to Buffalo Airport take?
Around 163 km by road, and about two hours of driving. That number is honest and also incomplete, because it does not include the border. Published estimates for the same trip run from about two hours to about two hours and a quarter.
The usual line is the QEW toward Niagara Falls, across at the Peace Bridge into Buffalo, then I-190 south to the airport. Simple roads, no turns to worry about and no Ontario toll, unless you ask for Highway 407 to get around a blockage.
The crossings your chauffeur watches
- Peace Bridge, Fort Erie to Buffalo. The most direct for BUF. The QEW feeds straight into it and I-190 runs from it to the airport.
- Queenston Lewiston Bridge. The usual alternative when the Peace Bridge backs up, and it has a NEXUS lane.
- Rainbow Bridge at Niagara Falls. No dedicated NEXUS lane, so NEXUS members are usually better off at Queenston Lewiston.
- Whirlpool Rapids Bridge. The lower roadway is NEXUS passenger vehicles only, and every single person in the car must hold a NEXUS card.
- CBP publishes processing goals of 15 minutes for NEXUS and SENTRI lanes, and Ready Lanes at half the general lane wait. Goals, not guarantees.

The queue at the booth is the real variable, and nobody can promise a number for it. It swings with the hour, the day, long weekends on either side, and whatever happened before you arrived. So we plan backwards from your flight with a buffer, rather than quote a door to door time we cannot control. CBP publishes live wait times for every crossing, and your chauffeur checks them before leaving and again on the QEW.
There is more than one bridge, and the choice is made on the day, not in advance.

02 · AT THE BORDER
What documents do you need to cross into the United States?
Start with the important part. Entry rules are set by the United States government and they change. Nothing here is immigration advice, and no car service can tell you that you will be admitted. That decision belongs to the officer at the booth. Check the official CBP page for your own situation before you travel, and read the rest of this as a summary of what CBP publishes.
For land crossings, CBP's Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative lists what it accepts. A US passport or passport card, an enhanced driver's licence, a Trusted Traveler card such as NEXUS, SENTRI or FAST, a US military ID on official orders, a Merchant Mariner document, or a Form I-872 American Indian Card. Canadian citizens may use a passport, an enhanced driver's licence or a Trusted Traveler card. Lawful permanent residents present the Permanent Resident Card.
What to confirm with us when you book a cross border trip
- That the trip is booked as a cross border run from the start. Not every Ontario operator or chauffeur is set up to cross, so ask any company you call, including us.
- The full legal name of every passenger, exactly as it appears on the document they will carry.
- Which document each passenger is bringing, and whether anyone holds NEXUS, because that changes which bridge makes sense.
- Whether anyone in the party is not a Canadian or US citizen, so the timing allowance is set sensibly.
- Child seats, by age and weight, and the proof of citizenship each child is carrying.
- Whether you also want the return leg into Canada booked at the same time.

Children are handled differently. CBP says US and Canadian citizen children under 16, or under 19 with a school, religious or youth group, need only a birth certificate or other proof of citizenship, and an original, photocopy or certified copy is accepted.
If you hold a passport from anywhere else, or you travel on a visa, your requirements are your own and you need to confirm them with CBP directly, well before the day. Please do not rely on a limo website, this one included, for that.
At the booth the process is short. The car joins the inspection lane, the windows come down, and every passenger hands over their own documents. The officer asks where you are going and why, and you normally stay in the vehicle. Any traveller or vehicle can be sent to secondary inspection for a closer look. It can be random, it does not mean you did anything wrong, and it can take real time. Our waiting policy for that is on your confirmation.
Good to know: Requirements, accepted documents and wait times all change. Check the official CBP travel pages before you cross into the United States, and the CBSA pages before you come back. Where those pages and this one disagree, they are right and we are out of date.
03 · WHAT IT COSTS
What does a Toronto to Buffalo Airport car service cost?
We quote a flat rate for the whole car, agreed before you travel, and it depends on the vehicle, the pickup point and the size of your party. The honest answer on a web page is to ask for a quote for your actual trip.
What we can give you is a public benchmark. The airport authority publishes a tariff for licensed taxis and limos leaving the Pearson curb, and Buffalo Airport is on it at $314 by taxi and $345 by limo, taxes included. Those are regulated curbside rates, not our rates, but they show what a serious number for this distance looks like. They do not cover bridge tolls or a long border delay, so read them as a floor, not a total.
Things that change the price
- Vehicle. A sedan suits up to 3 with luggage, an SUV suits 4 to 6, a Sprinter takes a group of 10 or more.
- Pickup point. Pearson, a downtown hotel and a home in Markham are three different distances.
- Time of day. Overnight and very early pickups cost more across the industry, and we say so upfront.
- Bridge tolls on the crossing, which are charged through at cost and appear on your invoice.
- Waiting time at the border beyond the allowance on your confirmation.
- Highway 407, only if you ask for it or traffic forces it, with the toll shown on the invoice.

When you compare quotes, compare the same things. Ask three questions. Is HST included. Is the airport pre-arranged fee included. Is gratuity included. A quote that looks cheaper often is not, once tax, fee and tip go on top. We give you the all-in number before you book.
04 · FLIGHTS AND DELAYS
What happens if your flight is delayed?
Your flight number goes on the booking and we track it. Land late into Pearson and your pickup moves with you. Land early and the car is there early. That is standard and it costs nothing.
A cross border trip adds a second flight to think about, the one you are catching at Buffalo. Since no operator can promise a crossing time, we work backwards from that departure and build in a buffer. Tell us that flight number and its check-in cut-off, and say plainly if it is tight, because it changes the pickup time rather than the price.

Two habits help. Book earlier than feels necessary on a Friday afternoon, a Sunday evening or a long weekend. And have everyone's documents in hand before the car reaches the bridge, not in a bag in the trunk, because hunting for passports in the inspection lane is the most common self-inflicted delay here.
Overnight arrivals are booked the same way as daytime ones. There is no depot to phone and no last coach to miss at two in the morning, which is the main reason people book a private car here.

05 · LUGGAGE AND VEHICLES
Which vehicle should you book for a cross border run?
Book by luggage, not by headcount. That is the mistake that causes trouble at the curb, and here it causes trouble at the booth too, because a car packed to the roof takes longer to clear.
Two people with two large cases and carry-ons are comfortable in a sedan. Four people with four large cases are not, and that is an SUV. A family of five with a stroller, or a group of eight flying out of Buffalo, is a Sprinter. Count every bag when you book and we size the car to it.
Child seats are available and must be confirmed at booking, with the child's age and weight, so the right seat is fitted before you travel. A child in a car seat is still a passenger crossing a border and needs their own proof of citizenship.
One thing worth saying out loud. What you carry is yours to declare, in both directions. If you are moving goods, gifts, alcohol, tobacco or cash, read the official CBP and CBSA guidance first. Your chauffeur drives the car and cannot answer for your bags.
06 · OTHER WAYS TO GET THERE
Is there a cheaper way to get to Buffalo Airport?
Yes, and you should know about them before spending a few hundred dollars. If budget matters more than timing, a private car is not automatically the right call.
The airport lists Niagara Airbus on its own long distance travel page as serving the Niagara region and Buffalo. They run a shared shuttle and also advertise private service to Buffalo Airport. It costs less than a private car, and in exchange you travel on their schedule with other passengers and their stops.
Cheaper again is the coach. FlixBus runs this corridor several times a day from around twenty dollars, the fastest run about two hours forty five minutes, stopping at Toronto Pearson Terminal 1 and at Buffalo Niagara International Airport itself. That is a real airport to airport service for a fraction of a car. The catch is the fixed timetable and no help if your plans move. Megabus also runs Toronto to Buffalo, but downtown to downtown, not to the airport.
Do not count on a rideshare either. Uber and Lyft drivers generally will not take a cross border trip, and cancellations at the bridge are a common complaint here.
A private car earns its money on an early or late flight, a group with real luggage, a family with car seats, and any trip where the schedule is not yours to lose. On a solo midday run with a backpack, the coach is the sensible answer and we would rather say so.

07 · CHOOSING THE AIRPORT
Does flying out of Buffalo instead of Pearson make sense?
Plenty of people in the GTA do it, usually because a US departing fare looks better from Buffalo. Sometimes it works. Sometimes the saving disappears once the ground trip is counted, so do the arithmetic before you book the flight.
Count both directions. The published Pearson tariff to Buffalo Airport is $345 by limo one way, so a return by car is roughly double before tolls. Add parking if you drive yourself, or two coach fares if you do not. Then add the border, twice, and a buffer so a queue does not cost you the flight.
Think about coming home, because almost nobody writes about it. Re-entering Canada you deal with CBSA, and personal exemptions depend on how long you were away. CBSA publishes CAN$200 after 24 hours and CAN$800 after 48 hours, the goods must be with you on arrival, and exemptions cannot be combined. On a same day trip there is no personal exemption at all.
So the honest rule. Flying from Buffalo makes sense when the fare gap is large, the party is small enough that the ground cost stays modest, and the flight times leave room for a queue. It makes less sense for a short trip, a tight connection, or a family of five where the ground leg costs more than the fare you saved. Tell us the flight you are comparing and we will say straight whether the drive is worth it.

Pearson to Buffalo Airport FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Still have a question? Call us any time at (647) 525-5466.
How long does it take to get from Toronto to Buffalo Airport?
About two hours of driving for roughly 163 km, and that figure excludes the border. Published estimates run from about two hours to two hours fifteen. The queue is the variable nobody can promise, so we plan the pickup backwards from your flight with a buffer rather than quote a door to door time.
Do I need a passport to go from Toronto to Buffalo Airport?
You need an accepted travel document, and CBP publishes the list for land crossings. For Canadian citizens that is a passport, an enhanced driver's licence or a Trusted Traveler card such as NEXUS. Lawful permanent residents present their Permanent Resident Card. Requirements change and depend on your citizenship, so check the official CBP page before you travel. Admission is the officer's decision, not ours.
Can Uber cross the border from Toronto to Buffalo?
In practice, no. Rideshare drivers generally will not take a cross border trip, and cancellations at the bridge are a well known complaint here. Book an operator that is set up to cross, and confirm it rather than assume it.
Which bridge is best to cross from Toronto to Buffalo?
The Peace Bridge at Fort Erie is the most direct for Buffalo Airport, since the QEW feeds into it and I-190 runs from it to the terminal. When it backs up, the Queenston Lewiston Bridge is the usual alternative and it has a NEXUS lane. The Rainbow Bridge has no dedicated NEXUS lane, and the Whirlpool Rapids lower roadway is NEXUS vehicles only. Your chauffeur picks on the day.
How much is a taxi or limo from Toronto to Buffalo Airport?
The airport authority publishes a tariff for licensed taxis and limos leaving the Pearson curb, listing Buffalo Airport at $314 by taxi and $345 by limo, taxes included. That is a public benchmark, not our price, and it excludes bridge tolls and border delay. We quote a flat rate with tax, fees and gratuity stated before you book.
Can you bring us back from Buffalo Airport to Toronto?
Yes, and it is best booked at the same time. At Buffalo Niagara International the pre-arranged limousine and hotel shuttle lot sits at the right hand corner of the arrivals terminal, a short walk from the exit. Coming back you deal with CBSA, who publish their own wait times and declaration rules, including personal exemption limits that do not apply on a same day trip.
Do children need documents to cross the border?
Yes. CBP says US and Canadian citizen children under 16, or under 19 with a school, religious or youth group, need a birth certificate or other proof of citizenship, and an original, photocopy or certified copy is accepted. If a child travels without both parents, check current CBP guidance first, because the rules are specific and they change.
